Three years ago, we introduced our first floral-themed deck: Epiphyllum, created in collaboration with illustrator Cheng Cheng. Now, the story returns in a second edition.
This time, the theme is love and pain.
For centuries, flowers have carried the words we cannot say. Yet the epiphyllum blooms only at night, and only for the briefest moment—fleeting, but breathtaking. In Chinese, the expression “昙花一现” describes something magnificent that vanishes almost as soon as it appears, like fireworks against a dark sky. Perhaps that is what makes the epiphyllum so moving: its beauty and its impermanence are inseparable.
A Tuck Case with Depth
The tuck case features a custom sculpted embossing and debossing process. Based on our artwork, the factory created a three-dimensional metal die, then pressed the design directly into the paper.
The result transforms a flat surface into something you can see and feel. The artwork does not simply sit on the paper—it seems to grow from it. From the moment you pick up the box, the deck carries a stronger sense of emotion, texture, and presence.
A Tribute, Completely Redrawn
The card back pays tribute to the original Epiphyllum. It preserves the spirit and structure of the first edition, while every detail has been redrawn from the ground up.
Compared with the original, the new design features richer linework and greater depth. Precisely registered cold foil follows the contours of the flowers, revealing brighter, finer details as the cards move through the light. Rather than simply adding a layer of metallic shine, the foil illuminates the floral lines themselves.
Every one of the 56 cards—including the number cards, court cards, and Jokers—has been completely reillustrated. Every detail and every line demanded time and care.
No AI-generated artwork was used. Every illustration was drawn by hand by our artist over the course of 60 days.
Gift Box Edition
The gift box includes two decks, one of which is a specially produced limited white edition.
The white deck has a distinct visual character from the red edition. Where the red feels more intense and profound, the white is pure, quiet, and restrained—another fleeting form of the epiphyllum blooming in the night.
